Country: Poland

Date of incident: September 13, 2025

A 47-year-old man disrupted a Sunday Mass at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Mieścisko, where he vandalised the altar, broke a cross, and verbally and physically confronted the priest. The police detained the man and confirmed that he was intoxicated at the time of the attack.

During a Mass at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Mieścisko, a man entered the building and disrupted the service by shouting at the priest. The man, who was not wearing any shirt, then moved directly toward the altar area, where he began to deliberately target religious objects, throwing them to the ground and broke a cross, in what appears to be a focused act of destruction of the altar space.

Footage recorded by internal church cameras shows the altar area being systematically vandalised, with sacred objects removed, thrown, and damaged during the interruption of the liturgy. The situation escalated as the man advanced further into the sanctuary.

When the priest attempted to protect the sacred area, the man verbally and physically confronted the priest. Parishioners intervened and managed to restrain the individual until police arrived and detained him at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the man was intoxicated at the time of the attack and that a report was filed by the priest and that the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
