Harvest carpet in St. Marien Church Destroyed
According to a report from 21 October 2025, a large harvest carpet depicting scenes from Biblical history was destroyed in St. Marien Church in Haltern am See after five women had spent more than two weeks creating it. The destruction affected a work specifically created for the church’s harvest festival and left those involved appalled.
A vandalism was reported on 21 October 2025 at St. Marien Church in Haltern am See, where the harvest carpet, depicting scenes from Biblical history, was destroyed by vandals on 19 October 2025. The piece had been created from thousands of fruits over more than two weeks by five women and was of particular significance for the church's harvest festival.
According to the report, the incident saddened the community with a spokesperson stating: “It is simply sad. Who does something like this? We are appalled.” One of the organisers, Steffi Kopper, further stated: “We put a great deal of effort into it again. It is the 20th harvest carpet that we have created.”
