Church Services Disrupted with Teenagers shouting Islamic Slogans
On the evening of 6 October, several teenagers disrupted a church service at an undisclosed Catholic parish in Vienna by shouting "Allahu Akbar" from the church entrance before fleeing. The parish priest expressed concern over the incident, and expressed that the report keep his name and the name of the parish private for safety reasons.
According to the report, the priest said he first heard laughter and noise which disrupted the church service before the youths shouted the phrase "Allahu Akbar" at the entrance to the church and ran away. He stated: "I've never experienced anything like this before. And I've been here for 20 years."
The use of an Islamic religious expression to disrupt Christian worship caused the priest to be "unpleasantly surprised" and concerned over the incident. The priest believed the youths were of Arabic descent, but their identities have not been independently established.
He asked that his identity and the name of the parish remain private, as he did not want to make it a target for Islamists, the report states: "I don't want to stir things up any further." The parish is known to be located in the west of Vienna.
