Repeated Vandalism and Objects Broken in Kempten Church

Country: Germany

Date of incident: October 6, 2021

Apart from church services, the doors of The Assumption of the Virgin Mary church in Kempten have been forced to close. This decision was taken due to the repeated acts of vandalism and broken objects there. The head of the parish community says the scripture stands were overturned, sacrificial candles scattered across the church interior and damaged. The parish has filed a complaint with the police.

To prevent further damage, the doors are now only opened at church service times. Father Gajewski finds this very regrettable. After all, he says, there are many people who want to pray in the church or retreat into silence outside of service times. For most of them, a church is a sacred place. It is therefore incomprehensible that unknown persons are rampaging through it.
