Substantial Damage to Church Sacristy after Break-In

On the morning of the 16th of October, the sacristy of St. Johann Baptist church in Kirchplatz Street was broken into, which was noticed by the sexton of the parish in Refrath the following morning. After a closer examination of the crime scene, the police were able to determine that the adjacent scout house of the parish had also been broken into. It was not possible to say for sure whether anything had been stolen during this incident, but the property damage was substantial. Forensic evidence was collected and a criminal complaint was filed.
On one window of the St. Johann Baptist church, two bars had been bent apart and the window behind them was open. Lever marks were found on the entrance door of the sacristy at the level of the door lock. At the entrance, various tools and an electric cable were lying on the floor. The vandals tried to break into the safe of the sacristy, considerably damaging it, but were not successful in opening it.
In the boy scout's house, various lever marks were found on the rear terrace door and the premises inside the building had been ransacked. Everything was stirred up, two small coffers were emptied, tools were stolen, including two axes and a flex, and the office was vandalized. It is assumed that the tools found in the sacristy belonged to the scout house.
