A Church Vandalised in Gourin, Brittany

Country: France

Date of incident: December 5, 2010

A man destroyed much of the furniture of the Church of Gourin, probably on Sunday, December 5th in the afternoon. Benches, the harmonium, flower pots but also the altar, the tabernacle and stain glass windows were the targets.

"At first, I only noticed that benches, the harmonium and flower pots had been overthrown and that the altar cloth had been stained. But on closer inspection, I also found that several stained windows of the choir had been broken by stone probably thrown at them." recalls Father Jean-Yves LeSaux, priest of Gourin. The Mayor Daniel Le Bars and Mayor’s General Secretary Patrick Menguy were shocked to see the number of damages in the church.
