Angel statue and donations stolen from St Mary Magdalene Church
An angel figure was stolen from a nativity scene inside a church in Rabka-Zdrój, along with donations collected from parishioners. The incident affected a religious installation of significance to the local church community.
As reported on 27 January 2025, the theft took place on a Sunday at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, where a newly installed angel figure from the parish nativity scene was taken. The perpetrators also removed the contents of a donation box placed at the site, which contained funds intended for charitable purposes.
Commenting on the incident, parish priest Fr Piotr Iwanek stated: “This sad incident has affected us all the more because the funds collected in the donation boxes were intended to support the work of the Sisters of Charity, who use the money to buy food for a kitchen for the poor.” He added that the parish hopes the figure may be returned and appealed to anyone with information to come forward, also calling on the person responsible to reflect on their actions and return the statue, even anonymously.
