Ten Commandments Mural Stolen from Church in Lincolnshire

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: February 23, 2025

Three religious murals, including a depiction of the Ten Commandments, were stolen from a church in Little Steeping, Lincolnshire.

The theft was discovered on 23 February 2025 at St Andrew’s Church, where three Victorian murals displayed in heavy wooden frames were found missing. The artworks depicted religious themes, including the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, and Moses delivering the commandments. According to police, the theft likely occurred overnight, with muddy footprints found at the scene and no sign of forced entry.

Churchwarden Basil Harwood described the act as disturbing, noting that “someone can come in and take something of a sacred nature.” Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for information, while the church has indicated it intends to remain open despite the incident.
