Tabernacle Desecrated and Eucharist Stolen
A church in Arroyo de la Encomienda was desecrated after perpetrators opened the tabernacle and stole consecrated hosts. The act has been strongly condemned by the Archdiocese of Valladolid and has affected the wider Catholic community.
The incident was reported on 14 March 2025 and took place at the Church of Nuestra Señora de La Vega, where unknown individuals forced open the tabernacle and removed the consecrated hosts. The stolen vessel held the consecrated hosts, which are of central religious significance in Catholic belief, making the act particularly sensitive for the local Christian community. In Catholic understanding, such actions constitute desecration and typically require a special Mass of reparation, which was held on 16 March.
In its official statement, the Archdiocese described the act as “particularly serious” and “an offence against God and the Catholic Church.” The faithful were called to prayer “in reparation for this sacrilegious act” and for the protection of the Eucharist. The case has been reported to the authorities, and the incident has had an impact beyond the local parish, affecting the wider diocesan community.
