A man repeatedly disrupted religious services and insulted worshippers inside a church in Almería, while also removing a Christian banner depicting the Cristo del Mar from a nearby residence. The incidents affected both the practice of worship and visible expressions of Christian faith in the local community.

The incidents were reported on 13 April 2025 in the Church of San Roque, located in the Pescadería district. According to reports, the man entered the church on multiple occasions over several days, interrupting Mass and other religious celebrations by shouting insults at those attending.

In a related act, he was filmed tearing down a decorative banner bearing the image of the Cristo del Mar from a nearby home, a symbol associated with local religious devotion. These actions contributed to a climate of tension and concern among residents and parishioners.

The suspect is described in the report as a man of Maghrebi origin. At the same time, local voices have cautioned against generalisations, emphasising the diversity of the neighbourhood. The parish priest called for calm, stating: “Our community has always been an example of coexistence. Let us not allow these events to overshadow what unites us.” Police have increased their presence in the area and are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrest has been confirmed.
