Man Insults Worshippers During Mass Commemoration in Gliwice

Country: Poland

Date of incident: April 10, 2025

A man entered the sanctuary area of a church in Gliwice, verbally abusing worshippers and using anti-Catholic insults. The incident disrupted a religious commemoration and involved actions perceived as desecration within the church.

The incident occurred on 10 April 2025 at the Garrison Church of St. Barbara, following a Mass commemorating the victims of the Smolensk Air Disaster. After the service had concluded, a man with bloodied hands entered the sanctuary area (presbytery), took hold of a microphone, and directed vulgar and anti-Catholic insults at those present.

According to reports, the man also washed his bloodied hands in the holy water font, an act that, from a Catholic perspective, constitutes desecration of a sacred object. He continued to behave aggressively, both verbally and physically, towards those present before being restrained by attendees and handed over to the police.
