Consecrated Hosts Stolen from Chapel in Catania
Consecrated hosts were stolen from a chapel in Catania, in an act regarded as desecration in Catholic belief. The incident prompted a call for reparation and prayer across the local archdiocese.
The incident occurred on 25 April 2025 at the Oratory of San Giovanni Paolo II, where unknown perpetrators stole consecrated hosts from the chapel. The stolen vessel held the consecrated hosts, which are of central religious significance in Catholic belief, making the act particularly sensitive for the local Christian community.
In response, the Archdiocese of Catania announced a reparation Mass to be held. The archdiocese also noted that, while the motive remains under investigation, some elements could suggest ritual misuse.
