Church Volunteer Assaulted Amid Series of Break-Ins in Concesio

Country: Italy

Date of incident: April 27, 2025

A church volunteer was assaulted during an attempted theft inside a church in Concesio, as part of a series of break-ins affecting multiple parish sites. The incidents involved forced entry, damage, and theft from donation boxes, raising concern within the local community.

The incident occurred on 27 April 2025 at the Sant’Andrea Church, where a volunteer entering the sacristy encountered two individuals attempting to force open a safe. A brief physical confrontation followed, during which the perpetrators tried to remove a ring from her finger but were unsuccessful. The woman managed to keep both her ring and watch before the attackers fled.

Carabinieri have collected surveillance footage and recovered a key left at the scene, which may assist in identifying those responsible.

The assault took place in the context of additional incidents during the night of 24–25 April 2025, when unknown individuals forced entry into parish buildings in Costorio, Pieve, and Sant’Andrea. Doors were damaged, and donation boxes were emptied, with approximately €30 stolen. In Costorio, the perpetrators also searched former residential quarters of nuns.

The repeated targeting of church properties, combined with the escalation to physical aggression against a volunteer, has led to increased concern among residents, who have called for stronger security measures and oversight.
