Altar Cross Destroyed in Chapel Desecration in Mielec
A chapel in Mielec was desecrated, with an altar cross completely destroyed and liturgical items, including books, stolen.
The incident occurred on 1 May 2025 at the Chapel of St. Stanislaus Kostka, where unknown perpetrators broke into the building and caused damage inside. According to the parish, the altar cross was completely destroyed.
Additional damage and theft were reported, including the removal of liturgical vessels, books, and other items used in worship. However, the destruction of the cross—a central symbol of Christianity—stands out as a direct targeting of a key religious object.
Following the incident, the chapel was closed, and services were moved to the main church. The parish announced that the chapel will remain closed until a Mass of reparation is held, reflecting the understanding of the act as desecration. Police have opened an investigation.
