Church in Cagliari Defaced with Political and Anarchist Graffiti

Country: Italy

Date of incident: May 19, 2025

A church in Cagliari was vandalised with political graffiti and an anarchist symbol. The act targeted the façade and reflects ideological messaging.

The incident was reported on 19 May 2025 at the Church of Sant’Ignazio da Laconi, where unknown perpetrators smeared graffiti on the façade of the church. The writings included the phrase “Casa per tutti. Palestina Libera” (“Housing for all. Free Palestine”) alongside an anarchist symbol.

The content of the graffiti indicates a political message linked to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, combined with anarchist symbolism. The church, as a visible and symbolic religious structure, appears to have been used as a surface for expressing these messages.

The incident prompted public reactions, including statements by a local politician, who attributed the act to individuals using political causes in conjunction with vandalism.
