Newly renovated chapel desecrated in Poland
On the night of the 23rd to the 24th of May, unknown perpetrators destroyed the more than 150-year-old Catholic Chapel of Our Lady in Tarnawa Dolna. In another chapel, located in Wielopole, the glass was broken, but thanks to the fence, there was no major damage.
The chapel by the road, only a year ago completely renovated by the residents, was severely damaged. Flowers were scattered everywhere and the figurines were smashed against the floor. Additionally, the sacred painting, also recently restored, was wrecked by glass shards. For years, this chapel has been a place for silent prayer for neighbours, families, and the local community in general.
Inhabitants are shocked and hurt by this act. "It's not just about religion. It's about respect. Someone destroyed something that had spiritual, cultural, and historical value. What will happen next?", asks one of the caretakers of the chapel. It is unclear whether this was a sacrilegious act and police are still investigating.
