10 Churches in the French Regions of Loire-Atlantique and Morbihan Desecrated

During February at least ten churches in the French Region of Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique were desecrated or robbed, according to media reports. After police investigation, two men were arrested.

Donation Box Stolen from Church in Mantes-la-Jolie

Shortly before starting Mass on January 21st, the priest of Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Mantes-la-Jolie discovered that one or more individuals broke a window and two doors in order to steal the church donation box. The priest filed a complaint with the police.

Infant Jesus Stolen from Brussels Nativity

Sometime during the night between December 28th and 29th, the nativity scene placed in the Grand Palace in Brussels was vandalized. The figure of the infant Jesus was stolen and the cradle was damaged. The police investigated.

Desecration and Theft of Consecrated Hosts from Spanish Parish

During the night between 26th to 27th of December the parish church of San Francisco de Sales in Parla, in the Community of Madrid, was desecrated when the tabernacle containing consecrated hosts was stolen. 

Two Gates Stolen from War Memorial at Church in Mapperley

Thieves have stolen two large gates from a war memorial at the Holy Trinity Church in Mapperley. The 1.2 meter gates were taken sometime between 6 PM November 26 and 8:30 AM November 27. Reverend Gill Turner-Callis said "they are the gates which lead to the churchyard and form part of the war memorial for all those who died in the Great Wars." Derbyshire police have investigated the theft from the Mapperley church.

Church Vandalized in Brittany

The Saint-Ouen parish church of Plouay was vandalized on November 6, 2018. The central altar stone was moved and and arm was broken off the statue of the Madonna and child and stolen.

Thousands of Pounds Worth of Lead Stolen from Shrewsbury Church

St. Mary's church in Shrewsbury was attacked by thieves twice in the span of 4 months in 2017. In July, 23 square meters of lead was stolen, and in Setpember, 14 square meters of lead was stolen. Jessica Robertson, spokeswoman for the Churches Conservation Trust said: "The cost of replacing the lead and repairing the damage to the historic fabric of the building will run into tens of thousands of pounds for our charity. In addition, on both occasions, the popular Battlefield Café was forced to close while the building was secured." This is the eighth church in the Trust's care which has been attacked in 2017 alone.

Statue Stolen from Christian Grave

The statue known as "La Pleureuse" (the Mourner) was stolen from the cemetery of Saint-Germain-Lembron. Police are investigating.

A Statue of the Virgin Mary Attacked and Damaged

Unknown people stole the crown of the statue of the Virgin Mary on January 22nd around 6pm. A finger of the figure, as well as an arm of the statue of the Child Jesus, were also broken.

Burglary in the Staldner Parish Church And the Church in Davos GR

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, unknown perpetrators broke into the Staldner parish church St. Michael and stole a sum of money worth about 800 francs. Another burglary incident took place in the church in Davos GR. After the abbatial service, unknown perpetrators stole the collections, which were intended to be given to Kids Foundation to support children with liver disease.

Various Cases of Thefts from Different Churches in the United Kingdom

A perpetrator stole the charity box from St. John’ church project, Shildon Alive. Other equipment such as video camera and items worth about £560 were stolen from Angelican church All Saints’. A burglar broke into Preston church and stole money intended to help asylum seekers and vulnerable people. At the Pentecostal Church on St John’s Road, a thief stole two wheels from a church minibus. Police are looking for witnesses and clues. Some thieves stole cash from St.Mirin’s Cathedral. Police are appealing for witnesses. Cash and tin have also been stolen from St.Brynach’s church. Seven lawn mowers have been stolen from St John the Baptist Church, in Farnham Road. Three men from the West Midlands admitted theft over 30 churches in different parts of the country, including Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. Church of Little Massingham Church has also been a victim of theft.

Theft in the Kamionki Church And Priest Caught the Perpetrator

The Archdiocese of Poznan published a video on social media to expose the theft that had occurred in his parish of Kamionki near Posen. The church's donation box had disappeared. At that time the priest was at church and heard the noises of the perpetrators. The priest ran after one of the perpetrators and caught him. He is accused of at least four burglaries in churches in the area. The police opened an investigation and the perpetrator immediately confessed.

Burglary in Görlitz Church

At 11:45 on January 28, the window grille was removed from the St. Peter's church in Görlitz and the window behind it smashed. The intruder then entered the crypt of the church and from there, stole two music boxes and a microphone. A small wooden organ was also significantly damaged in the process and the value of stolen goods amounted to around 1000 euros.
